Berkeley Debate Team Collects a Record Number of Varsity Wins

The debate team collected more varsity wins at the Glenbrooks Tournament in Chicago than any previous group of Berkeley students. This tournament was the largest of the semester, representing 231 schools, 33 states, and 3 countries. Congratulations to all who competed!

Three Berkeley teams achieved a 4-3 record: Maryclare Nestor ’25 and Emma Yu ’25; Alan Risal ’26 and Neal Gupta ’27; and Mateen Zafaranian ’25 and Darren Lau ’26.

Michael Ross ’25 and Sameer Varkantham ’25 finished second out of the 188-team field. Both students were also listed in the top 10 speakers at the tournament (out of 376 varsity debaters).
